Metro Center Amenities

During the day, there are many restaurants and food vendors nearby. There is a café in the building on the main level that will serve beverages, sandwiches and snacks. There is a common area on the lower level to enjoy your meal and converse before class or on break. There is also considerable dining, entertainment, and event activity near the Atrium in downtown Syracuse, and the area is well patrolled.

The Metro Center will not be offering food or beverages nor will kitchen or refrigeration be available. Food and drinks may be consumed within the Metro Center, subject to faculty consent, with the standard advice for careful enjoyment.

Restrooms at the Atrium are located at the north end of the building. The Atrium is home to a variety of businesses and the restrooms are secured. In your classroom you will find information posted that gives you the security code to use so that you may access the facilities.

Classrooms and Offices

There are three classrooms in the main suite, a seminar room, and other rooms for specific functions. Another suite across the hall contains a large classroom, breakout area, and office. A third suite has a classroom, meeting room, faculty offices, and a breakout area. Coat closets are provided.

There are two carrels in the main suite equipped with desktop computers and a B&W printer/copier for student use. It is advisable to have your printing jobs on a flash/thumb drive for best service. There is also a public copy center across the street.

The Metro Center is a wireless environment. There are AC power receptacles throughout.

We have created common areas, open spaces, and smaller meeting rooms with comfortable furniture for small group discussions. Offices are provided for faculty to share for student advisement. The classroom tables and chairs are designed to be easily reconfigured for diverse teaching requirements.

Books and ID Cards

The College Bookstore will have a presence at the Metro Center as needed. No student supplies will be routinely available.

If you do not have a current SUNY Oswego ID card, we will have Metro Center staff to assist you with taking the photo and having a card made for you. The ID card will be important for parking discounts and library services.

Staffing

The Metro Center is initially staffed by a resident Director, Administrative Assistant, Graduate Assistant, and a Graduate Fellow. A staff person will always be on site when the Metro Center is open.

Building Security

A security guard will be posted during evening hours up to facility closing. Most classes will conclude by 9:15 PM and everyone should plan to exit the building by 9:30 PM.

Atrium entrances will be clearly marked for the Metro Center visitors. Occasionally certain entrances will be closed depending on the hour and other activities and events near the Atrium. Please be prepared to show your ID card if the security guard or other building official requests.
