Designed by George B. Post & Sons, the hotel was built in 1924 at a cost of more than $6,000,000.  This beautiful building of 600 rooms included everything that the nation's leading hotel architects could include.  To quote the brochure published at that time, “Spacious, beautiful and dignified, the public rooms of the Hotel Syracuse provide genuine comfort and pleasure for the guests...And the comfort to be found in the lobby is typical of the entire hotel, with its roomy chambers, luxurious beds and splendid service.”
In the fall of 1982, the Hilton Hotel was completed by Greg Ferentino.  The Hotel Syracuse and the Hilton were linked together by an enclosed esplanade.
Sadly, the Hotel Syracuse closed in 2003. Today the City of Syracuse and potential developers are looking to revive the historic property as a hotel once again, as a residential complex, or a combination of both.
