The Art Store Artist Demonstrations

Columbus Circle, Friday - Sunday, July 30 - August 1

Visit www.commercialartsupply.com for more information about the Art Store.

Friday, July 30

11am-1pm
Sharon Blair, PanPastels
PanPastel Colors are genuine artists' quality pastels, uniquely packed in a pan format. They were developed so that artists can easily lift, apply and control pastel color, just like true painting! Come see Sharon demonstrate their versatility alone and in use with other pastels.

2pm-4pm
Robin Winsor, Hand Building Clay
The potter's wheel did not appear in history until only a short 4,000 years ago. Prior to that, pinch and coil construction methods prevailed as the main ways clay was formed by man.  Come watch how Robin creates not only the simplest of pinch pots, but more elaborate creations without the use of machinery or complicated tools.

All Day Friday
David Clark, Learning Center
The Center, a part of Transitional Living Services, responds and assists individuals who have sustained a traumatic head injury and their families. With the right amount and kinds of support, people with developmental disabilities or traumatic brain injuries can live full and happy lives along with their families, friends and community members. The David Clark Learning Center does just this, changing and enhancing lives every day by providing a variety of activities and supports such as creative writing, memory enhancement activities, and a state-of-the-art music and art program. Stop by and see what just some of their individuals have been doing, re-discovering their artistic talents and showing their vital part of our local community.

Attending all Three Days of the Festival
Tom Huff, Stone Carving
Tom Huff, a Seneca/Cayuga artist is a stone sculptor working with a variety of stones, styles, and themes, both traditional and contemporary. He teaches and guides classes, workshops and demonstrations all over the state. He will not only be displaying some of his pieces, but be on hand to help you choose your first stone to carve and to give the basics of stone carving. Some of his students work will also be on hand for viewing and/or purchase.

Saturday, July 31

10am-Noon
Sharon Blair, Mixed Media
Mixed media refers to a technique involving the use of two or more artistic media, such as ink and pastel or painting and collage, that are combined in a single composition. There is no telling and with what Sharon will end up in the process of creating a new piece, but it is always a guarantee of fun, creativity and learning new techniques.

1pm-4pm
Robin Winsor, Hand Building Clay
Robin will again be demonstrating hand building, focusing this time on tiles and trays that can, once dried, be made into functional art pieces.

2pm-4pm
Sharon Blair, Plein Air Painting
"Plein air" is a term derived from the French phrase en plein air, which literally means "in the open air". Originally popular in the 1960s and 1970s, tie dying continues to be a popular art form with families, schools, community groups, and expressive individuals. Robin will be demonstrating, throughout the day, different techniques and methods of tie dyeing. For a small fee you can even join in the fun and make your own tie dye t-shirt, apron or scarf!
