Downtown Living Tour Tickets Now On Sale
Wednesday, April 15, 2015
SYRACUSE, NY – Tickets are now on sale for the ninth-annual Downtown Living Tour, set for Saturday, May 16, Noon to 6 p.m. The self-guided walking tour gives Central New Yorkers a unique opportunity to explore downtown’s newest and most sought-after examples of urban living. From the Heart of Downtown, through Armory, Clinton, Hanover and Franklin Squares, eight tour stops will be featured as part of this year’s event.
Advance-sale tickets are available for $12 now through May 14, and may be purchased in person at 115 West Fayette Street in Downtown Syracuse, or online. On the day of the Downtown Living Tour, tickets may be purchased for $15 (cash or check only), at the Tour Headquarters, located at the Pike Block at 320 South Salina Street between Noon and 4 p.m.. Large crowds are expected, as last year’s event sold more than 2,300 tickets.
The Downtown Living Tour grants visitors inside access to both occupied and available units in five historic neighborhoods. Visitors will see why more than 3,200 people have made Downtown Syracuse their home, and why it continues to be one of the two fastest growing neighborhoods in Onondaga County. Keeping with tradition, tour-goers can choose to experience the day as either a self-guided walking tour, or they may ride a free shuttle bus that will run a special tour route.
As visitors walk through the Dey’s Plaza Lobby, the officially designated Tour Rest Stop, they will be treated to LIVE music to add to the historic ambiance. The Downtown Committee is pleased to welcome members of the professional orchestra Symphoria, which will fill the lobby of Dey’s Plaza with a diverse array of musical selections.
Also new this year, the Downtown Committee will partner with two community organizations to enhance the Living Tour. As an alternative to the self-guided tour, visitors may choose to purchase tickets at an additional cost for a premium guided tour, offered by NOexcuses Tours, Inc. This insider tour will showcase the eight residential stops featured on the Downtown Living Tour, with expanded information on historical and architectural details. A Downtown Living Tour Information Booth will be established at the Tour Headquarters as a new addition this year. Believe in Syracuse will staff this booth, answering any questions visitors may have about the event.
“We are so excited for the community to experience the unique living spaces that make Downtown Syracuse such a hot address,” said Merike Treier, executive director of the Downtown Committee of Syracuse. “The Downtown Living Tour offers something for everyone – whether you’re a young professional or an empty nester, or interested in learning more about interior design, architecture, historic preservation or urban living. We invite everyone to come see what makes Downtown so vibrant and experience the residential development firsthand."
Residential development accounts for more than 40 percent of the $368 million currently invested in Downtown Syracuse. In just the last year, downtown’s population has increased by almost 10 percent and 43.5 percent in the last five years.
A housing market analysis, recently commissioned by the Downtown Committee of Syracuse and the Community Preservation Corporation, showed the downtown housing market – conservatively speaking – could accommodate up to 727 additional units per year without plateauing. That means if there were 727 units available tomorrow, the downtown apartment occupancy would still be 99 percent.
Parking for the Tour is available for $3.00 in the Clinton Street Garage, at 409 South Clinton Street. On-street parking will be free throughout the Central Business District on the day of the Tour.
The Downtown Living Tour provides the perfect backdrop to highlight Residential Living this May, as the Downtown Committee continues to celebrate its 40th Anniversary. Each month, the Downtown Committee is spotlighting themes related to Downtown’s accomplishments and continued growth. Participate in the conversation by following the Downtown Committee on Facebook, Twitter and Instagram.
