Syracuse CoWorks Grand Opening Celebration & Free Day of Coworking
Wednesday, March 11, 2015
Syracuse, NY – In exactly one week, Syracuse CoWorks will celebrate its grand opening. To mark the occasion, there will be a full free day of coworking to show off the new space. Coworking allows networking with like-minded professionals; it encourages collaboration and fuels creativity among independent workers, entrepreneurs and freelancers in a shared space. Next Wednesday, March 18, the entrepreneurial community – and anyone who is curious to learn more about the concept of coworking – is invited to see how it works and try it out for themselves.
Syracuse CoWorks, a facet of Common Space, started in the Tech Garden in 2012 and expanded to the new space on East Jefferson Street early this year. Events are planned throughout the day, leading up to the official Grand Opening Celebration at 5 p.m. evening.
“We can’t wait to finally open our doors and let Syracuse see all of the hard work we’ve put into CoWorks,” said John Talarico, chairman of Syracuse CoWorks. “We truly believe it will be a hub of activity and a great meeting space for new and established businesses.”
The Grand Opening Celebration of Syracuse CoWorks provides the perfect backdrop to highlight entrepreneurship, as the Downtown Committee continues to celebrate its 40th Anniversary with a monthly spotlight on Projects. Each month, the Downtown Committee is highlighting a different theme related to Downtown’s accomplishments and continued growth on its website and across its social media platforms. The focus on Projects of the past, present and future this March serves to highlight the many themes driving Downtown’s resurgence.
“We’re thrilled to welcome Syracuse CoWorks to Downtown Syracuse,” said Merike Treier, executive director of the Downtown Committee. “A unique environment where people are encouraged to network and share their ideas to stir creativity is the type of environment that makes Downtown Syracuse attractive as a business location. The concept of coworking truly compliments the culture of our center city, as it continues to evolve. We’re so proud of the Syracuse CoWorks team in establishing this creative concept and look forward to its continued growth.”
The Grand Opening Celebration will kick off at 9 a.m. Wednesday, March 18 with 1 Million Cups, a weekly program where entrepreneurs present their business ideas and progress over coffee and receive candid advice from their peers. Syracuse CoWorks is proud to host the first chapter of 1 Million Cups in New York State, the 69th chapter in the nation. The idea is that if entrepreneurs share 1 million cups of coffee, creative business outcomes will brew in the community. The program was developed by the Kauffman Foundation in Kansas City to expand the nation’s entrepreneurial network.
Official tours of the space on the second floor of 201 East Jefferson Street in Syracuse will be given at 10:30 a.m. and 1:00 p.m., but anyone is welcome throughout the day. While enjoying coffee from Cortland-based Coffee Mania, visitors will learn how coworking is a new way of doing business for remote workers, freelancers, or anyone currently working out of a home office or a café.
The day will culminate with a Grand Opening Celebration at 5:00 p.m., where people will meet and mingle with the founders, coworkers and sponsors who work to make Syracuse CoWorks possible.
Funding for Syracuse CoWorks’ new space was made possible through grants from Harris Beach, Onondaga Civic Development Corp, the Gifford Foundation, National Grid, Pathfinder Bank, the New York Main Street Program and the Downtown Committee.
