Syracuse Style to Showcase Fall Fashions, Featuring Dazzling Downtown Retailers & Hair Salons to Celebrate Downtown as a Retail Destination
Tuesday, September 13, 2016
This Thursday, September 15, more than 75 models will walk an 80-foot runway on Walton Street (map) in Armory Square for the sixth annual presentation of Syracuse Style, the centerpiece of Syracuse Fall Fashion Week. The free event is co-produced by the Downtown Committee of Syracuse, Inc. and Syracuse Fashion Week. Starting at 7:30 pm, the community is invited to watch as the latest styles in men, women and children’s fashion, jewelry, accessories and eyewear are revealed. Men, women and children models will “strut their stuff,” showcasing fall fashion and style from 18 downtown shops. Even behind the scenes, Downtown teamwork is at play, as three downtown salons provide hair and makeup for the models. Please click here for a list of participating retailers, boutiques and hair salons.
With a tent covering the runway, the show will go on rain or shine. Although the event is free to attend, there are a select number of VIP tickets available. For $50, the VIP tickets grant attendees front row access to the runway. Those who purchase VIP tickets are also invited to an exclusive, pre-show party at Empire Brewing Co., where they will enjoy drinks and hors d’oeuvres. Guests may also purchase street seat high-top tables of four for $175. The street seat high-top tables include complimentary beverages and hors d’oeuvres. Both VIP tickets and street seat high-top ticket holders will also be able to attend a post-show party at Funk ‘n Waffles for free. The VIP and street seat high-top table tickets are available at Empire Brewing Co., or may be purchased through Eventbrite. Keeping with Syracuse Style Fashion Show tradition, all proceeds from VIP tickets and street seat high-tops will benefit the Food Bank of Central New York.
Syracuse Style is pleased to welcome back CBS 5’s Michael Benny as the emcee of Syracuse Style.
New this year, for the first time in the event’s history, Syracuse Fashion Week is introducing “Dressed to the K-9’s Fashion Show,” a fashion show designed for pets! On Wednesday evening, September 14, the community is invited to watch as dogs hit the catwalk in Perseverance Park (map). If you want to get your dog involved, the “Dressed to the K-9’s Fashion Show” is still looking for paws and participants. You may register for the free event by clicking here, or visiting http://syrspaces.com. Handlers and owners are encouraged to coordinate with their furry-friend’s attire, but it is not required. Check-in for the “Dressed to the K-9’s Fashion Show” begins at 6:30 pm Wednesday, September 14. The paws will hit the runway at 7:00 pm. “The Syracuse Style Fashion Show has become a fall tradition in Downtown Syracuse, and this year, we are incredibly excited to get Downtown’s fastest growing population – the dogs! – involved!” said Merike Treier, executive director of the Downtown Committee. “With the variety of clothing retailers, boutiques and salons, and talent represented, this premier fashion event enlivens Walton Street in such a way that onlookers may feel like they’re in New York City. We hope the community will turn out to see the high-quality fashions that make Downtown Syracuse a retail destination.”
“Each year, the event brings new attention to Downtown Syracuse and unites the community by providing a sampling of the high-quality, unique fashions found throughout our local businesses, retailers, boutiques, salons and artists,” said Lisa Butler, executive director of Syracuse Fashion Week and owner of Inspired Designs. “This year, we’re excited to debut paws on the runway, and add fashions for our pets into the mix.”
Organizers expect more than 1,000 people to attend the event this year. Syracuse Style has been recognized by the International Downtown Association as a program that has improved the image and vitality of our Downtown, while attracting visitors.
One week after the fashion show, on Thursday, September 22, the windows of the Landmark Theatre will come to life with living models for the fourth annual presentation of the Syracuse Style Landmark Theatre Window Project. From 7:30 pm to 8:30 pm, the community is invited to watch as area businesses unveil live window displays in the rear storefronts of the Landmark Theatre along South Clinton and West Jefferson Streets (map). Each window features a different concept and design incorporating a live model to add to the ambience.
