The Big Show – “Hanover Squares” – Returns!
Teams Wanted for Reprise of Live Game Show
Returning last year after a decade-long hiatus, the Hanover Square Association is back for the 2008 “Hanover Squares,” the live game, based on the TV game show, “Hollywood Squares.” Back by popular request, this fun and exciting event will be held on August 08, 2008, at 7:00pm.
The game will feature nine local celebrities and comedians positioned in the upper floor windows of the Koolakian & Manro Menswear building in Hanover Square. The game host is Bruno Schirripa, best known as the owner of the former Wise Guys Comedy Club. Teams of contestants will compete in seven games until one winner prevails.
Organizers will hold auditions over the next few weeks to select teams of contestants. Eight teams of up to five people will be selected to play. “We’re looking for groups of funny people – the wackier, the better,” said Schirripa. Teams are encouraged to come in costume or to wear team shirts or hats. Teams wishing to audition to play should call 477-9895 or send an email to: sascha@wiseguyssyracuse.com.
The game format is similar to tic-tac-toe, beginning with a trivia question from the host. The contestant team selects a celebrity in the window to answer the question. The contestant has the option to agree or disagree with the answer to win the X or the O. Many of the answers are intentionally bluffed.
The event is produced by the Downtown Committee, the Hanover Square Association, Syracuse NewTimes, Wise Guys & MOViN 100.3, with funding from a grant through Senator John A. DeFrancisco
