Downtown Syracuse Joins Effort to Clean the Streets and Sidewalks of Littered Cigarettes

The Downtown Committee of Syracuse has partnered with Keep America Beautiful, the nation's largest volunteer-based community action and education organization, to launch the Cigarette Litter Prevention Program. The Downtown Committee will place 20 new cigarette receptacles throughout downtown Syracuse addressing a commonly overlooked environmental problem. The Downtown Committee will also distribute 1,000 pocket ashtrays to adult smokers who want to help keep downtown Syracuse clean. “In many cities, the vitality of downtown is judged on its cleanliness and pedestrian experience,” said David Mankiewicz, executive director of the Downtown Committee.
