retail event

The Downtown Committee organized a retail recruitment event in downtown Syracuse on Wednesday, June 22, 2011 to reach out to prospective retailers to encourage them to consider downtown as a business location. A great opportunity exists to position Downtown Syracuse's retail offerings to attract a unique mix that attracts people from across the region to shop, dine and be entertained. The June event was designed to inform retailers from around the region about the retail opportunities in downtown Syracuse and to help them locate a business here. The event contained a diverse mix of morning panel sessions intended to give prospective retailers background on downtown Syracuse and the retail climate. Panel session topics included downtown Syracuse's demographics, existing downtown retailers' experiences, available financing and incentives for downtown businesses and advice for navigating the process of opening a business. Prospective retailers were given access to information about all available retail space in downtown Syracuse and were able to speak directly with leasing agents about available spaces. Representatives were also on hand from a number of financial institutions, the City of Syracuse Department of Neighborhood and Business Development, Greater Syracuse Business Development Corporation, Onondaga Small Business Development Center, Syracuse Small Business Administration and WISE Women's Business Center, among others.
