The second annual Downtown Living Tour is scheduled for Saturday, May 17, 2008, from noon to 6 p.m. Last years event was a huge success and drew over 2,000 people! Find out why downtown Syracuse has become the neighborhood of choice as the doors are opened to ten adaptive reuse and new construction projects featuring market-rate and luxury apartments, live/work spaces and "green" condos. Designed to increase awareness of the revitalization taking place in Syracuse, promote downtown's historic architectural charm and urban amenities, tour goers will find that each building offers a different and unique living experience.
The tour highlights both occupied and available units in several of downtown's historic renovations in neighborhoods such as Armory Square, Hanover Square, Clinton Square and the Montgomery Street Corridor. Tourists will also get a sneak-peek at what is to come as projects that are currently under construction are opened for the public to see!
The tour offers something for everyone, from young professionals and empty nesters looking to live downtown, as well as those interested in historic preservation, interior design, architecture, and urban living. Tourists will also benefit from special offers at downtown restaurants, shops, and cultural institutions the day of the tour.
The tour is designed to be a walking tour, but two free Centro hybrid Downtown Living Tour shuttle buses will be running the tour route as well, serving as an option for tourists. Guarantee your ticket by purchasing advance sale tickets for $10 (can be purchased online through May 12th). Day of event tickets are $12. All tickets can be picked up in the lobby of the Hotel Syracuse the day of the tour between 11:30 a.m. and 4 p.m. Parking is available in the Hotel Syracuse Garage for $3. A program guide will be published and distributed by The Post-Standard in mid-May and distributed to ticket holders the day of the event.
The tour is presented by the Downtown Committee of Syracuse, Inc. a private, not-for-profit, professional downtown management organization, representing all property owners and tenants within the central business district. The Downtown Committee undertakes programs to improve downtown's image, strengthen its economic base, increase its attractiveness, and assure that it's clean, safe, and accessible. It is the hope of the Downtown Committee that this tour will provide others with an experience of all that downtown has to offer, and build awareness of the importance of residential development as a key element in a vibrant and successful downtown.
The Downtown Committee wishes to thank our Tour Partner, Syracuse Neighborhood Initiative and Congressman Walsh and Revitalization Sponsor, Community Preservation Corporation.
