Partners in Planting Program Grows in its Second Season: Dressing Downtown Streets and Bolstering Neighborhood Pride
Friday, June 3, 2016
Syracuse, NY- Friday afternoon, a group of employees from Young Leaders United, a division of the United Way, joined the Downtown Committee of Syracuse, Inc. to combine employee engagement with downtown beautification efforts. The group of 15 met at M. Lemp Park, located at the corner of West Fayette and South Warren Streets. The group planted flowers and seeded the corner park, which has become a beacon for dog-walkers and office workers in search of a sunny bench, before venturing to the intersection of Washington and Warren Streets to plant four flower beds.
The beautification efforts at M. Lemp Park and along Washington and Warren Streets are a partnership between Young Leaders United, Pioneer Companies and the Downtown Committee – the same partners who launched the program in 2015. The Partners in Planting Program was developed as a way to bolster pride and engage downtown employees in the neighborhoods they work in. By transforming downtown’s landscape through beautification and clean-up efforts, participants give back to the community by showing they’re invested in the quality of life Downtown Syracuse presents.
Later this month, on June 16, 15 people representing The Bonadio Group, will roll up their sleeves to engage in additional beautification efforts throughout Downtown Syracuse. Check back with the Downtown Committee for an announcement about the neighborhood they will work in.
“We’re grateful for the commitment and support Young Leaders United and The Bonadio Group have demonstrated in the form of planted pride for their Downtown neighborhoods,” said Merike Treier, executive director of the Downtown Committee. “It’s awesome that Young Leaders United returned for a second season. Their efforts to encourage walkability and present a welcoming streetscape for visitors leaves a visible impact. June kicks off Festival Season throughout Downtown Syracuse, and thanks to their hard work, Downtown stands out as an attractive destination.”
