“Partners in Planting” Program Welcomes Back The Bonadio Group and Young Leaders United to Dress Downtown Streets and Bolster Neighborhood Pride
Friday, June 2, 2017
Syracuse, NY- This week, a total of 30 volunteers – one group from Young Leaders United, a division of the United Way, and one group from The Bonadio Group – returned for the 2017 season of the Downtown Committee’s Partners in Planting Program. The Partners in Planting Program combines employee engagement with downtown beautification efforts to ensure Downtown Syracuse is attractive and welcoming to visitors for this summer’s festival season.
Friday afternoon, June 2, 15 members of Young Leaders United (pictured to the left below), joined the Downtown Committee to plant flowers throughout Hanover Square. After they helped make one of Downtown’s most popular business and residential neighborhoods “pop” with color, the group filled planters at City Place, located between the State Tower Building and City Hall Commons. This is the third season Young Leaders United have rolled up their sleeves to plant seeds of vibrancy throughout Downtown Syracuse. Young Leaders United, Pioneer Companies and the Downtown Committee launched the Partners in Planting program in 2015.
Thursday, June 1, a group of 15 employees from The Bonadio Group (pictured on the right above) returned for its second season participating in the program. The group spent Thursday afternoon pulling up weeds, seeding and planting flowers at M. Lemp Park. The corner park, a beacon for office workers in search of a sunny bench and downtown dogs in search of a place to play, is located across the street from M. Lemp Jewelers at 300 South Warren Street in Downtown Syracuse (map). After The Bonadio Group’s beautification efforts at M. Lemp Park, the group moved to the intersection of Washington and Warren Streets, planting four flower beds fronting the University Building.
The Partners in Planting Program was developed as a way to bolster pride and engage downtown employees in the neighborhoods they work in. By transforming downtown’s landscape through beautification and clean-up efforts, participants give back to the community by showing they’re invested in the quality of life Downtown Syracuse presents. The 2017 season of Partners in Planting is a partnership between The Bonadio Group, Young Leaders United, Pioneer Companies and the Downtown Committee.
“Planting flowers and participating in clean-up efforts may seem like small, simple gestures, but they go a long way to make a big impact on our Downtown community,” said Merike Treier, executive director of the Downtown Committee. “Beautification efforts such as these encourage walkability and leave a lasting, visible impact upon visitors this summer. We’re grateful to have the commitment and support that The Bonadio Group, Young Leaders United and Pioneer Companies have demonstrated in their ‘planted pride’ for Downtown Syracuse.”
“The Bonadio Group is proud to return for its second season participating in the Partners in Planting program,” said Donald Taylor, managing partner of Bonadio’s Syracuse Office. “Downtown Syracuse is a beautiful place to live, work and visit. Our team was excited to roll up their sleeves and dive into planting to make sure Downtown’s streetscape is welcoming to visitors this summer season.”
“Partners in Planting has become a summer tradition for Young Leaders United volunteers! They couldn’t wait to return for their third consecutive season to help out,” said Marianne Ferris, Director of Resource & Leadership Development at the United Way of Central New York. “This group is committed to Downtown Syracuse, a place they call home, and they take great pride in giving back to their community. This project is a perfect fit for Young Leaders United, whose motto is to connect with like-minded members at networking and social events, learn from experienced community leaders and executives through our Community and Leadership Education series, and serve as volunteers in projects that make our community a better place.”
