TWO WEEKS AWAY: Syracuse Style to Showcase Fall Fashions & Show Off Downtown Syracuse as a Retail Destination
Thursday, August 30, 2018
Syracuse, NY – In two weeks, the 100-block of Walton Street in Armory Square will become an 80-foot lighted runway to host the eighth annual presentation of Syracuse Style. Co-produced by the Downtown Committee of Syracuse, Inc. and Syracuse Fashion Week, the runway fashion show is free to attend and starts promptly at 7:30 pm on Thursday, September 13.
The latest fall fashion styles in men, women and children’s apparel, jewelry, accessories and eyewear will be revealed as 100 men, women and children models will “strut their stuff,” showcasing fall fashion and style from 15 Downtown Syracuse retailers. The highly visual fashion show is also a display of Downtown teamwork. Behind the scenes, three Downtown hair salons provide hair and makeup styling for the models. Click here for a list of all participating retailers, including a comic book store, guitar shop, sneaker store and several boutiques and salons.
Although the event is free to attend, there are a select number of VIP tickets and street-seat high top tables available. For $50 (plus fees), the VIP tickets grant attendees front-row access to the runway. Those who purchase VIP tickets are also invited to an exclusive, pre-show party at Empire Brewing Company starting at 6:00 pm. VIP party attendees will enjoy VIP beverage service at a private end of the bar, as well as passed hors d’oeuvres and food stations serving up a fashionable feast. Guests also have the option to purchase street seat high-top tables of four seats for $175 (plus fees). Positioned along the runway, the street seat high-top tables include complimentary beverages (beer, cider, red and white wine). Those who have a high top table are welcome to arrive any time after 6:00 pm for seating. The VIP and street seat high-top table tickets may be purchased through CNYTix.com (accessible via the Downtown Committee’s website) and are available on a first-come, first-serve basis at Empire Brewing Co. on the night of the show. Keeping with Syracuse Style tradition, all proceeds from the sale of VIP tickets and high-tops will benefit the Food Bank of Central New York.
Organizers are pleased to welcome back CBS 5’s Michael Benny as the emcee of the 2018 edition of Syracuse Style. For planning purposes, Walton Street will close to traffic at 2:00 pm Thursday, September 13, to allow for set-up. In the event of rain, the runway will move inside to the Landmark Theatre.
“We hope the community will come out to watch the Syracuse Style Fashion Show to experience the creativity of local designers and retailers, and sample the vast variety of Downtown’s retail offerings,” said Merike Treier, executive director of the Downtown Committee. “The line-up of clothing retailers, designers, and specialty boutiques is a showcase of the elements that make Downtown Syracuse stand out as a retail destination in Central New York.”
“A city needs culture, artists, visionaries, commerce and just a little sparkle,” said Lisa Butler, executive director of Syracuse Fashion Week. “As the renaissance of Downtown Syracuse continues, Syracuse Fashion Week has been proud to foster our creative community. Whether it’s for ‘Date Night,’ Girls Night Out, a family outing or simply a great Thursday experience, please join us for the eighth annual Syracuse Style runway show – and add your own special sparkle to Walton Street!”
Syracuse Style, presented by the Downtown Committee and Syracuse Fashion Week, receives additional support from: The Armory Boys, Creative Concerts, Empire Brewing Company, the Landmark Theatre, Onondaga Beverage, Syracuse NewTimes and Syracuse Woman Magazine.

About Syracuse Fashion Week
Syracuse Fashion Week is a semi-annual celebration of style and fashion in Syracuse and Central New York. Its philosophy, “Always inclusive, never exclusive,” and its events unite designers, boutiques, stylists, artists, musicians, bars, restaurants and other businesses that have a vested interest in the quality of life that Upstate New York presents. While Syracuse Fashion Week celebrates clothing as one of the essentials to happy human existence, another vital essential is food. Hunger and food insecurity is, unfortunately, an ever-growing concern in many areas of the country, including Central New York. For this reason, Syracuse Fashion Week partners with The Food Bank of Central New York to raise awareness and funds for this social issue. To date, Syracuse Fashion Week has provided meals for more than 25,000 people in Upstate New York.
