Beautification Programs
We love Downtown Syracuse and we know you do, too! If you’d like to put your adoration to good use, help us beautify downtown. Below please find a few ways you can contribute to our downtown beautification efforts.
Hanging Flower Baskets
The gorgeous hanging flower baskets that bloom throughout summer months in Downtown Syracuse are tended by the Downtown Committee. They dress streets throughout and hang in the Cathedral Square, Hanover Square, Salina Street, Clinton Square and Armory Square neighborhoods in vibrant shades of purple.
Would you like to help us increase Downtown Syracuse's Flower Power for next year by making a contribution to the maintenance of the hanging basket program?

Unboxed: The Utility Box Art Program
The Downtown Syracuse Foundation, in partnership with the Downtown Committee of Syracuse, presents Unboxed: The Utility Box Art Project, our pilot public art program to transform utility boxes in Downtown into works of art.
We are so excited to unveil the three winning designs for Unboxed! Ally Walker had two winning designs: Starry Night Sky, painted on the utility box at 200 West Water Street, and The Library Come to Life, painted on the box at 300 Montgomery Street. Lydia Nichols' design, Keep Syracuse Salty, is painted on the box on the corner of West Fayette Street and South Franklin Street. Join us in celebrating these artists, and the incredible new public art that they have brought to Downtown Syracuse!
This project is made possible through the CNY Arts Grants for Regional Arts and Cultural Engagement regrant program thanks to a New York State Senate Initiative supported by the NYS Legislature, the Office of the Governor and administered by the New York State Council on the Arts. Unboxed: The Utility Box Art Project is also made possible through grant funding from Tomorrow’s Neighborhoods Today. We want to send a huge “thank you!” to The Art Store for their sponsorship and support of this public art program and congratulate them on 50 years of being in business!
Adopt-An-Area
Is there a part of Downtown that’s special to you that you’d like to take an active part in sprucing up? We can work with you if you’d like to start a clean-up crew or if you’d like to make a donation towards a specific item in our public space (such as plantings, benches, bike racks to name just a few).
Partners In Planting
The Partners in Planting program bolsters Downtown employees’ pride for their neighborhood by combining engagement and beautification efforts to transform Downtown Syracuse's landscape. For more information, please contact our team at mail@downtownsyracuse.com.
Cigarette Litter Prevention Program
Did you know that cigarette butts are not biodegradable? When dropped on the sidewalk, they pollute our walkways and waterways. To reduce cigarette litter and encourage proper disposal, the Downtown Committee installs powder-coated steel cigarette butt receptacles throughout our central business district. If you would like a receptacle outside your business, please contact our team at mail@downtownsyracuse.com.
Arts In The Windows
The Downtown Syracuse Committee originated the Arts in the Windows program in 2015 to showcase available storefronts, while spotlighting the talents of local artists. The temporary artwork installations activate Downtown's streetscape by generating new foot traffic, and expand the audience for the visual arts in our community. In its current iteration, the program is called Salina St. 10 with the goal of activating downtown’s main Salina St. streetscape. Funding for the program is provided by Tomorrows Neighborhoods Today and CNY Arts.
